Eröffnung KLAUS SCHERÜBEL. VOL. 19

Wie lässt sich das abwesende Werk darstellen? Diese Frage könnte am Beginn der Ausstellung „VOL. 19“ stehen, in der Klaus Scherübel (*1968 in Bruck/Mur, lebt in Montreal) eine Serie von raumgreifenden Installationen zeigt, die sich mit Konzepten von Autorschaft sowie den Bedingungen von künstlerischer Produktion und Rezeption auseinandersetzen. Im Zentrum der Ausstellung steht das Projekt „Reconsidering Jack Torrance’s All Work and No Play“, in dem Scherübel – in der Rolle des Herausgebers – die vermeintlich gescheiterte Arbeit der Schriftstellerfigur J. Torrance aus Stanley Kubricks Film „The Shining“ (1980) re-produziert und als eigenständiges Werk in den Kunstkontext überträgt, um es dort für neue Betrachtungsweisen zugänglich zu machen.

How can an absent artwork be rendered? This question could easily be posed at the beginning of the exhibition "VOL. 19", in which Klaus Scherübel (b. 1968 in Bruck an der Mur, lives in Montreal) presents a series of space-encompassing installations that explore concepts of authorship and conditions related to artistic production and its reception. At the heart of the exhibition is the project "Reconsidering Jack Torrance’s All Work and No Play", where Scherübel – in the role of editor – reproduces the supposedly failed work of the author figure J. Torrance from Stanley Kubrick’s film "The Shining" (1980), transferring it to the art context as an independent work in order to make it accessible for new perspectives.
