The director of the Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien and curator of the exhibition “Gerlind Zeilner. Cowgirls,” Sandro Droschl, will guide interested visitors through Gerlind Zeilner’s pictorial worlds. Zeilner is interested in the tensions and ambiguities within painting including pictorial ideas shaped by a male-dominated art history that tends to the clichéd. In her structural significant and therein fragile, broken virtuosity, Zeilner works on figurative-abstract pictorial spaces full of critical and colorful suggestions about the existence of a female painter among male painters—of women among men.
Sandro Droschl (*1970 Graz, lives in Graz) is the founding director and curator of the venue Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien (KM– Graz). From 2000 to 2003 he worked as curator of Kunstverein Medienturm, Graz, and was its director starting in 2004, while also serving as guest curator at other institutions. He has curated numerous exhibitions of contemporary art, edited over 30 publications, written contributions to art magazines, and also regularly serves on juries. Droschl studied “Körper. Medien. Kunst” with an emphasis on visual arts in the class of Isabelle Graw and in the open class, along with philosophy, journalism, and medicine at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the University of Vienna, and London Guildhall University.
